International contacts are an everyday part aspect of our institute. Over 150 students, almost 15% of the total student population, are from other countries. Agreements on cooperation have been signed with 30 European and several other international institutes of learning. In recent years relations have particularly been reinforced with the United States of America, Japan, Canada and Israel. The Royal Academy of Art is a member of the Cumulus network, an European Association of Universities and Colleges in Art, Design and Media ( www.uiah.fi/cumulus ). Furthermore, our institute is associated with the European League of Institutes of the Arts and with the European Association for International Education.

Student exchange
Crossing borders means widening your horizons. You are in a different cultural environment. The language, the methods of working and attitudes - to education as well as to other things - are different to what you are used to. It puts your activities in a new perspective. It is often possible to study part of your course abroad, or to emphasize certain aspects of your studies that you would not be able to do in The Hague or in the Netherlands. It should also be remembered that a work placement or study abroad is a good preparation for your future position in (international) professional life. It is a challenge, which requires an independent attitude and perseverance. For more information, see Socrates-Erasmus or Other exchange programmes.
