All students (except 1st year students) should choose two teachers as mentors for the 2006-2007 study year. Please send the names of three teachers of your choice to coaches@interfaculty.nl before June 15. It is the intention to honor the first two choices, but this cannot be guaranteed due to the availability of teachers.
Before July 1 students will be informed of their final allotment (under the normal restriction of the agreement of the board of directors, the CvB of the Hogeschool BKMD).
On Wednesday September 6 all BA and MA students and teachers are expected to meet in the Image and Sound room at the academy. After the general meeting students may meet their mentors individually to arrange a first appointment.
During the first individual conversation the aims of the coaching are discussed:
- development of the student's work and the research to be undertaken.
- preparations of the presentations in January and June: planning, production plan, budget, spatial context, documentation, and post-production.
- creating an individual path through the curriculum, and choices for optional courses to be followed in Media Technology or other faculties of Leiden University.
- the student's orientation towards the professional practice, an individual professional profile in the context of the creative industries, and activities while exploring the art world during the studies.
- regular development of the portfolio.
- signaling possible personal problems and, if needed, relegating the student to the students dean (studentendecaan) in case of problems with study finances, support with applications for funds and grants, housing problems, problems caused by illness, help and advice with appeal procedures, adjustment problems, study motivation, study planning, change of study, conflicts with teachers, information about unsubscription, sexual intimidation or unwanted intimacy, or information about master courses. The student dean of the academy is Frans Lossie, the student dean of the conservatory is Paul Deneer.
- internships or studying abroad during the first semester of the 3rd year.
After the first meeting the student is fully responsible for making follow-up appointments. The teacher determines the date, place and duration of the meeting.
